HW Wednesday, 9-18

Continue working  on the simple machine practice problems.  Its Learning has a quiz to check your answers (numerical, not the work).  All work should be in your engineering notebook.

Tomorrow you'll have a chance to ask questions and correct mistakes.  You have the opportunity to demonstrate responsibility.  Finish the problems in enough time (before the end of the period) to check your answers and ask questions.

This is part of a playlist of all the videos for this unit, but it should begin at the video you need.

Expectations

Last week students reflected on and shared their expectations of each other, myself, and the class.  They were very insightful and to the point--a recipe for success.  Below are the links to the comments from each class.  I'm look forward to facilitating and living up to those expectations this year and welcome your feedback as we the year continues.  These are living documents and will be revisited and updated as necessary.

HW Wednesday, 9-4

Both periods
  1. If you haven't already, email me.  Instructions are in the previous post below.
  2. Create a CONCEPT MAP for SIMPLE MACHINES:
    1. Brain Dump - write down any and all words having to do with motion that come to mind.
    2. Categorize - organize those words into groups, what obvious collections do you see.
    3. Map - Setup your basic layout, categories near the main topic, details farther out.
    4. Connections - connect separate words with lines and short phrases across categories.  These are the most important.
Not sure how to make a concept map?  run out of time in class before we could run through this example?  Check out this screencast from E period: http://somup.com/cIQfqBVh0

Welcome to POE

Welcome parents, students, the Medway community, random blog searchers who stumbled across this to the MEDWAY POE BLOG!  I can't wait to get started! There is a lot to talk about, but we'll just start with the basics.

WELCOME to the BLOG

This blog will serve as a window for parents and the community to know what is going on here in Pricinciples of Enginering (POE). We will also utilize It's Learning and Canvas, a more comprehensive class website, but more on that later. If you have a Google account, feel free to follow, or subscribe by entering your email at the right.

FIRST HOMEWORK

Your first homework assignment of the year is simple:
Two questions:
  1. Can you access the internet from home?
  2. Tell me something fun about yourself. Why are you awesome?
Email me your response: jjasinski@medway.k12.ma.us
Subject: POE (your period)
  381-01 is D period
  381-02 is F period

WHAT DO I NEED?

CLICK HERE for the syllabus.  If you're going shopping tonight, this course requires the usual suspects:
  • scientific calculator (square root, sin, cos, tan)
  • something to write with (no red pens, please)
  • something to write on (notebook or loose leaf paper)
  • 1 or 1.5" Binder
More info to come.  I'm looking forward to a great year!
